Impact

Buxton Helmsley
Foundation.

The Charge

Set to launch in 2026, the Buxton Helmsley Foundation will channel the discipline and conviction that define our firm into philanthropy with lasting consequence. We will direct resources toward initiatives that strengthen the integrity of capital markets, advance medical science, and expand access to economic opportunity—because the obligations of a successful institution will extend well beyond its portfolio.

Status

The Foundation is not yet operating and is not currently accepting grant applications or funding requests.

The Foundation

Our mission & vision.

Guided by the belief that private enterprise carries a responsibility to the systems and communities it benefits from.

Mission
To deploy capital and institutional expertise in service of initiatives that will promote transparency in public markets, accelerate progress in medical research, and create durable pathways to economic participation.
Vision
A philanthropic institution recognized not for the breadth of its giving, but for the rigor and permanence of its impact.

The Doctrine

Our guiding principles.

The standards that will govern how we identify, evaluate, and sustain our philanthropic commitments.

  • Disciplined Capital Deployment

We will evaluate philanthropic opportunities with the same analytical rigor we apply to investment decisions—identifying where capital will produce measurable, structural outcomes rather than incremental ones.

  • Institutional Partnerships

We will seek partners whose capabilities complement our own, building long-term relationships with organizations, researchers, and institutions positioned to translate resources into results.

  • Sustained Commitment

We will not pursue visibility. We will pursue outcomes—and outcomes will require patience, sustained funding, and the willingness to stay engaged long after initial commitments have been made.

  • Accountability & Measurement

Every commitment will carry an obligation to verify its impact. We will hold our philanthropic investments to defined benchmarks, applying transparency and oversight standards consistent with institutional best practice.

The Focus

Areas of focus.

Three areas where we believe targeted, expert-informed philanthropy will produce disproportionate impact.

Shareholder advocacy and corporate governance.

I. Pillar

Market Integrity & Transparency

Public confidence in capital markets will depend on the quality of corporate disclosure, the strength of regulatory frameworks, and the willingness of market participants to hold institutions accountable. The Foundation will support efforts that reinforce these pillars—from academic research on securities regulation and financial reporting standards, to legal advocacy organizations that protect the interests of individual and institutional investors.

  1. Supporting academic and policy research on corporate governance, market structure, and disclosure practices
  2. Funding legal and regulatory initiatives that promote transparency and protect investor interests
  3. Advancing public understanding of how well-functioning capital markets serve broader economic prosperity
Medical research and innovation.

II. Pillar

Medical Research & Innovation

Scientific progress will depend on the willingness of private capital to fund the work that public institutions and commercial incentives alone cannot sustain. The Foundation will direct resources toward early-stage medical research and organizations working to translate scientific discovery into treatments that reach the patients who need them.

  1. Funding research in areas where commercial incentives alone are insufficient to drive progress
  2. Supporting organizations that bridge the gap between laboratory science and patient access
  3. Investing in the infrastructure that enables breakthrough research—from training programs for investigators to data-sharing initiatives that accelerate discovery
Education and economic opportunity.

III. Pillar

Education & Economic Opportunity

Durable economic growth will require broad participation—and broad participation will require access to education, financial literacy, and the tools of entrepreneurship. The Foundation will invest in programs that equip individuals with the knowledge and resources to build financial independence, with a particular focus on communities where that access has historically been limited.

  1. Expanding financial literacy programs that give students and working adults the tools to make informed economic decisions
  2. Supporting workforce development in industries where skilled labor shortages constrain opportunity
  3. Funding entrepreneurship initiatives that create pathways to economic independence and wealth creation
